just getting a new motorcycle riding and
need a new helmet or have an old nasty
one that needs to be replaced make sure
your new helmet fits I'm going to show
you how so before you even try some
helmets on you should figure out
relatively what size you are the best
way to do that is with a flexible tape
measure and measuring your skull above
your brow at the widest part of your
head to get a measurement if you don't
have one of these handy tape measures
you can also use a length of string and
then measure the string against the
standard tape measure next reference the
helmet manufacturers sizing chart to see
what size you are if your head
circumference falls between sizes get
the smaller size keep in mind that
helmet sizes in shape vary between
manufacturers so while you may wear a
smaller eye you might need to order a
medium to oh me now that you've got your
helmet size picked out it's time to try
it on and see how it fits hold the
helmet by the chin straps and then roll
your head into the helmet from front to
back
yeah I know it's pretty simple advice
but you'd be amazed how many guys I see
just pull the helmet straight on their
head try to roll the helmet forward off
your head you shouldn't be able to next
grip the helmet on either side and lift
it up and then side to side the lid
should be securely affixed to your head
and move your scalp and cheeks along
with it where your perspective lid for
as long as possible it's not uncommon to
see shoppers walking around dealerships
with a helmet on just like it's not
uncommon to see motorcyclists editors
sitting at their desks testing the fit
of new gear Wow now take the helmet off
are there any red spots in your face or
sore spots in your skull any pressure
points that are apparent during a quick
test fit are guaranteed to be
problematic in the long run if the
helmet is otherwise a good fit it might
just be the wrong shape for your head
try a different model a brand until you
get the best fit possible if you're
tempted to wear a helmet it's too big
for you because it's on sale or the
color you want it's only available in
the size that doesn't fit you don't do
it a to large helmet will be noisy
drafty and most importantly it won't do
its job properly in a crash your helmet
is your single most important piece of
safety equipment it's got to fit right
you
